Old Palestine Cemetery is a historic burial ground located east of Alto, Texas, along State Highway 21. The cemetery traces its roots back to the mid-19th century when Henry and Helena (Dill) Berryman deeded land for the Old Palestine Baptist Church and community graveyard in 1853, with some burials dating as early as 1861. Over the years, the grounds have expanded through additional land donations and serve as the final resting place for many of the area’s early settlers and generations of local families. The site stands as a lasting reminder of the pioneer heritage and enduring history of the Old Palestine community.
